What the option chain shows
Friday's session unfolded as a study in delayed momentum, with both headline indices shrugging off weak opens to finish sharply higher by day's end. Nifty closed at 22,520.45, up 1.282%, while Sensex settled at 72,472.33, gaining 1.213%—a coordinated move upward that masked different intraday rhythms between the two.
Nifty began with a modest gap down of -0.304% and spent much of the morning and early afternoon in neutral territory, showing little urgency in either direction. That changed abruptly at 2:30 PM, when sharp buying emerged and carried the index from its session lows of 22,294.75 all the way to close just 60 basis points shy of the day's peak of 22,580.75. The speed of the reversal was the session's defining feature—a market that had drifted sideways suddenly found conviction.
Bias and readiness
Sensex took a slightly different path but arrived at the same destination. Its gap down was fractionally wider at -0.372%, and it also began the day in neutral mode through 10:30 AM. However, the turnaround began earlier than Nifty's, with bullish bias setting in around 11:30 AM and persisting through the close. The index climbed from a low of 71,739.49 to end near the upper end of a 930-point range, closing just 197 points beneath its 72,669.2 high. Call debit spreads dominated the afternoon's option flow, a structure favored when traders expect continuation higher—a read that proved accurate as both indices held gains into the final print.
The margin between Nifty's 1.282% advance and Sensex's 1.213% means Nifty outpaced the broader index by roughly 7 basis points on the day. Both recovered cleanly from their session floors and closed in the upper half of their ranges, signaling that buyers' conviction held through the final minutes rather than fading into the bell.
Levels to watch
The session's broader character reflects a market that needed time to find footing but, once it did, showed no hesitation in marking gains. Neither index closed at session lows—indeed, both finished well clear of them—pointing to sustained demand that arrived in the afternoon window and sustained through close.
